Students from organisations such as Scouts, Girl Guiding, Army cadets, Air cadets, St John Ambulance and Police Cadets took part in Lord Lawson’s Remembrance Service to remember the lives lost in past, and present conflict. Veterans from the Birtley Fellowship of the Services joined us in parade. HM Deputy Lieutenant for Tyne and Wear was also present for the duration of the service.
All students taking part had a vital role to play today, some in particular showed an outstanding commitment to deliver well rehearsed readings, lead the parade (of both students and veterans), lay wreaths, and bear a standard. The readings in particular played tribute to and thanked all of our fallen soldiers.
The service began at 10.40, with the parade marching up and standard bearers in front. Cadet CpL Sam Dawson led the wreath laying, following on by Poppy Orton, Ryan Wittanstall, and Rowan Henderson, and then any other guests who wished to do so. We were played a beautiful Last Post, and Revielle by our very talented David Ord on his bugle, before singing the National Anthem. Alex Moody, an Army Cadet, performed fantastically well today, leading all cadets and students through parade.
The students planned and delivered the whole service with the help of a member of staff. Students were incredibly respectful in the run up and during the service, helped each other, and have shown just how tremendous they truly are. HM Deputy Lieutenant made numerous comments regarding the standard and quality of all students involved today. A very well done to all students, and a huge thank you to any student and staff member who have all pulled together to help today’s service run.
